Difficult to say from a short description, if that really is the ONLY rust on it I would pay circa 700. Check the rear arches and lift the boot carpet up and have a good look for rust.

Have a look at the for sale section on here to get a gage.. Everything on there usually fairly priced or failing that the comments that people make are.

Cheers I've been studying the rust page for a while the prices I seem think the market is at
£800 pretty Much a rusty dog
£1000-1500 for a cleanish auto /4 dr
And about 1400 for a low mile coupe
There's just loads of convertibles
and more doors so there not many standard low mile 2doors in an ok color to compare too

£1000-1500 sounds a lot for a 4 door auto 316 - which has to be the least desirable E30.
A 'rusty dog' could be worth ( = scrap value + £30 per month of MOT + £18 per month road tax - the cost of fixing any immediately obvious problems).
These cars are the devil for rust. If you can find someone who knows what they are looking for to have a look around your prospective purchase it could save you an awful lot of grief

A nice un-buggered-about-with two door manual is what nearly everyone wants, hence higher prices.
