I've seen a 325i I quite fancy, but it's just had the head gasket replaced, would I be advised to steer away from buying it due to this?

Not if it has been done properly by a garage.

So as long as it's been done properly then there should'nt be any major problems with it then.
Is it neglection that usually causes the head gasket to fail?

Its one of the many cause's. The fact that the head has been ported and polished means that someone has spent some time and money to get it done. My 325i is coming up to 156000 miles, and i think i might have a problem with my head gasket caused by a blown rad hose....crazylegs wrote:So as long as it's been done properly then there should'nt be any major problems with it then.

common problem and a lot of 325is will have had them changed
would be better to know who did the work though mate. the heads often corrode or crack which causes the gasket to blow, so if it's been done on the cheap it might have a corroded head put back on which should have been welded/replaced.
they can blow on their own though without any head problems.
no way to know if it's had port/polish work done without taking it to bits, so i'd be a liitle wary about believing that. might be a genuine seller or it might be bollocks!
