My 316i build!
Moderator: martauto
Hi all, this is my 1989 316i E30 build, i bought the car for 150 quid no tax and test, it had been stood for 2 years but it looked clean and tidy, a few little scraches and two big key marks down the side, red paint had faded and per usual with the older cars a little surface rust, but all can be fixed. The car looked promising a nice little project to dip my feet in the water of e30's, so to speak.
hope you enjoy!

So the first job was to get the car, obvs with it been stood for that length of time the battery was duff, but the guy who was selling assured me the engine was sound and would fire up first try.
£45 for a battery from the local motor factors sorted the first problem out and as the guy said....it didn't start lol, but a gallon of petrol later and a few turns of the key the car started lumpy at first but i expected that with the fuel that was in it had been in there for some time.
So on to the trailer it went and home ward bound we went.
I got a mot on this, new shoes and cylinders at the rear sorted the braking issue, the pedal went to the floor with no resistance other than that no problems what so ever.

Next job was to get the arch gap smaller so a set of lowering springs that i got for my birthday was put on mad the car in my opinion look a lot coler than it already is.
40mm at the rear and 60 at the front. didn't want to go stupid low because it makes cars, again my opinion un-drivable. This is a perfect hight for me.

slight rubbing from the rear arches on the tire, nothing a old broom handle to roll the arches cant fix!
a few proplem have started to arise, the shacks both front and rear have past the due causing the car to bounce arond on the road, once i have some funds a new set will be bought.

next step is to tackle the dents and scratches that littler the car. my mate has a knowledge for body work, i on the other hand have no patience for it what so ever.
once sanded down and filled there put in to primer ready for paint.

going over the car i found that both front wings are rotten the drivers side not even attached at the sill and i give the passenger side about 2 hours before it does the same.

also wandering around i found a dirty hole in the drivers inner wing where the battery sits
(Bad photo, will get better one when the steels go back on)

also on the boot shut there are 2 patches where some one has badly mended them.

they mended it with mesh and filler

Looking forward to see how this one turns out!
hahaha yea i can get stuff done if i set my mind to it.
yea full respray, the spryer at work says he will do it for £250, includes materials and flatting and a polish, which is not bad at all. just need to figure out how to get some of the exterior trim off then will be laughing.
