How good is an E39 540I 6 Speed manual ?

Hi
I've been offered a e39 54i six speed manual in a swap for my M50 engined Cabby ( with Hard top ) - What are these like, i would assume they're very quick ? Anyone in the know about faults / value etc ?

MMMM, that would go nicely into an E30 engine bay with manual box too..

Is it a £1200 P reg SE turd with grey leather or a £4000 51 plate Sport?

A good example is nice, a bad one is a £600 gearbox donor.

This one is a 1997 so i guess the gearbox donor comment applies!
