you can use castrol 10w40 if you wish and if you dont drive the car hard and dont want the extra expence of full synth then yeah go for that.
But i would use 5w40 Silkoline or for full protection use Motul.

Jose 0w is too thin when cold.
Castrol is not very good, it just cant handle the hight temps and breaksdown or burns too fast.
I would never use it unless it was for a car thats just used as a run around and doesnt need the protection of a full synth oil.

I thought that was the idea, the thiner the better when cold, so that there is protection all the way round

your looking at around Ԛ£36 for a good fully synth
0w is too thin for the uk climate,
You might be getting all the condesation in the engine mixing with the oil, i had that once (not on my S14) but it will evaporate over time. Give it a few more weeks see how you get on.

0w is not too thin when cold, it's still 40 times thicker than it is at 100degC!
A decent 5w-40 is perfect for UK climate.
Magnatec, spiced up mineral oil, use a proper synthetic, much better!
Cheers

That's the cheap option, not the quality one. 5w-40 this time of year and synthetic too is the best option with winter upon us.
