wich is the blue temp sensor who everyone is talking about i seen it mentioned before in several posts.

1) http://24rsk.thor.prohosting.com/M20Engine/ts1.htm

2) http://24rsk.thor.prohosting.com/M20Engine/ts2.htm

my guess is number 2 is the blue temp sensor.(and i think mine is faulty)

if i disconnect no 1 my engine suddenly dies.

if i disconect no 2 there is no noticable change whatsoever even when engine at operating temperature.

No 1 looks exactly like the blue temp sensor with 2 connectors, never seen anything like no 2 before!

the second connector goes into the right hand side of the block iirc

the blue connector is so called because of the colour of its connector is it not?

a while ago we had a thrad on a overheat light in the overhead check panel. My best guess at the time was that it is triggered by a dedicated thermal switch, probably screwed into one of the blanked off bosses on the thermostat elbow.
This little device is exactly what I would expect it to look loke.

hey guys, the engine is fitted with both the sensors.

look at this picture of my engine

http://thor.prohosting.com/24rsk/M20Engine/tempspic.htm

No 1 and 2 in this picture(yellow) are the leads to the Number 2 sensor in the first thread.

and number 3(the dash temp gauge 1pin sensor)

and to the 7 o'clock of number3'syelow , outnumbered, lies the
Number 1 sensor in the first tread.

and brianmoore, i don't have a overheat ligh in my check panel, and the engine is a 320i M20 L-jetronic injection system. if i disconnect the no 1,2 leads nothing changes while the engine is running. brian, might this be a leftover from the other m20 engine? because the thermostat housing was taken off another m20 engine.

but if that why does my car's wire loom has the connectors for the sensor??

ah, L jetronic - That explains the lack of blue temp sensor. No2 something to do with cold start injector?

but what might be the equivalent of the blue temp sensor on the L-jetronic system? my engine runs very rich at the moemn't haven't figured why yet. changed the air filter, still rich.

and also somewhere near the no2(first thread) sensor pic on the original site, there was the abreviation:

Water Temp. Sensor
ECU
Purple Top
w/ 2 "NON" - F.I. Type Connectors

might this be the one the ecu reads the temp on the L-jetronic system?

i have the 2,3 m20 and it also seems very heavy on fuel and my coolant warning light comes on on the overhead inspection panel,i thought this was a level sensor or am i wrong is there a connection between this and the high consumption
