Gents, couldnt see anything about this in the Engine swap section. I mate has written off his e39 525 manual gearbox, so I was thinking fitting the M54B25 engine into my 1990 325 cab auto. So my question is firstly would the engine and drive train fit if so what woul I need additionally?
PS has this been done?

The only advantage of the M54 b25 (only 190bhp) over the M50 b25 (190bhp) is the Aluminium block which means the engine weighs approx 20Kg less.
As Will said, electrically a complete nightmare, but the biggest factor is the fact M54 engines were designed to be emmission compliant and as such have very small inlet ports and do not respond well to tuning. Most aftermarket tuning for these engines is based around forced induction.
The M54 b30 with 230bhp minimum is still barely worth the trouble.

Can anyone suggest how to test if the boot lights are staying on with the boot shut?
