can they be disassembled? I mean is it possible to take tweeter out of plastic pod and if yes what would be alternative similar or same size tweeter to replace?
can I connect oem tweeters to the aftermarket radio without the crossovers?
thanks
oem tweeters questions

the standard tweeters have a capacitor attached which acts as a crossover so you can just add them to any system.
yes, the standard tweeters can be cut out quite easily from behind without damaging the pod itself.
you should be able to fit most tweeters in there, theyre sort of a funnel shape so there's more space than it looks from the size of the grille. i think mine were approx 30mm and were held in with a bit of hot glue gun glue.

Thanks for the info, but I don't think those have a capacitors, can the capacitors be on the wires in the doors?:harry_p wrote:the standard tweeters have a capacitor attached which acts as a crossover so you can just add them to any system.

the speakers I bought have a crossovers, but they are quite bulky and won't fit behind the footwell speakers.
those tweeters should fit in the corners easy? I was playing with passenger side for a while, it just does not sit as it should, at the end I broke one of the pins on inside of the plastic
now superglueing the broken part back, will give it another try .

broke that tooharry_p wrote:from memory they push down and in at the bottom, then the top inwards, although on mine the plastic is cracked around the metal clip on one of them so it's never sat flush

They probably have got capacitors/filters/crossovers in line, in the cable somewhere hidden away!!!
You should be able to tell with a multimeter - I'm assuming it should give some different resistance to a standard piece of wire, but I can't confirm the techy details on that bit I'm afraid!!!

I read somewhere that the tweeter wires after door plug go to the footwell speakers and the capacitor is mounted on that speaker (oem). But my tweeter wires were going somewhere inside the dash , anyway, I have an aftermarket speakers installed and I used crossovers and wired tweeters to that.miniblob wrote:They probably have got capacitors/filters/crossovers in line, in the cable somewhere hidden away!!!

All sounds good now, for jazz&soul and r&b, but I like reggae dub so need a bit more bass but don't want sub in the boot, looking at active underseat subs now, but don't think there is enough room for that in e30.
