Nope 320i and 325i heads are different and cannot be interchanged.

The 325i has a raised protion on the piston crown which corresponds to the shape of the combustion chamber in the head. If you fit a 325i head onto a 320i you'll get low compression and if you fit a 320i head onto a 325i the pistons will hit the head and ruin it.

as Ian said, 320 head will not fit onto 325 block n pistons

I have one of each for sale, good 325 head standard, but also modded 320 head so that 325 valves will fit & enlarged ports. Should make good power for anyone with a 2.7 conversion in the pipeline. The 320 head does need some finishing off, but all the major machining has been done.

whilst ye're on that sort of topic would anyone mind xplainin why either a 325i or 320i head would fit a 525e block?

Only a 320i head would fit the 525e block because the pistons have the same shaped crown as a 320i.

However, the Alpina C2 2.7 and 2.7 conversions done the 'proper' way use 325i dome top pistons therefore require a 325i head. This version of a 2.7 is more expensive than going down the 525e block/320i head route because of the extra machining required to deck the block (the 325i pistons would sit too low down in the bore at TDC without machining).
