Rack input spline

What's the rack input spline spec for specifically Z3 and E36? I cannot locate whether it is 17mm-54 or 17mm-36. The top is 17mm-54. I have seen one case where the steering coupling was turned upside the exhaust clearance and other person saying that this cannot be done as the two splines were different.

e30 is 17-36 at the top and 17-54 at the bottom, e36 is 17-54 both ends.
