my 325i cab has had a manual gearbox fitted at some stage and it feels pretty "sloppy" also when engaging reverse it feels like the lever is going way, way left, it's supposed to be a close ratio but how do i tell?
Pass me the spanner

The bush in the bit fixed to the gear change shaft at the gearbox will be worn. It's only available with the metal part around it, and has been modified by BMW to reduce this wear. This means that you will need the modified linkage as well to suit.
This has been covered several times, so if you do a search, you should be able to find diagrams and part numbers.

You could see how much the rpm drop between gears, if it is close ratio it shouldn't drop as much but I don't know what you can compare it to. I can try to get some figures from mine if you want. Is yours a dogleg? Maybe it is the sport box, not sure if that is close ratio exactly but I think 2nd and 3rd are closer than the normal box.DazzyA wrote:it's supposed to be a close ratio but how do i tell?
