Fuel hose diameter?

Need to change the fuel hose under the bonnet, from fuel filter to fuel rail. Looking quite brittle.!

Anyone know what diameter it is? 6mm?

ETK (realoem and similar) will confirm it as 8mm bore.

Definitely 8mm ID, I've just done mine.

On the IS there are hoses from the body onto some solid pipes mounted to the engine, then more hoses under the intake from those solid pipes on the fuel rail. Those short, hard to see pipes were REALLY tired - it's not a massive undertaking for some extra piece of mind (This is also 8mm)

Make sure whatever pipe you buy has "suitable for unleaded" or similar stamped on it.

I know every question is in the wiki.. but it wouldn't spark off such great display of knowledge between the e30 folk if people didn't ask.! (i'd also get moaned at by my boss if he saw me on the t'internet)

Yeah every time I opened the bonnet I got a faint whiff of fuel, the hose clip on the intake manifold was loose, also hose looks to be too short as its stretched tight from the filter to fuel rail. It also is pieced together with a join in it, for no reason whatsoever.

Don't like the look of it so time to change.!

Whilst the Wiki is great (I use it now after the work that's gone in to improve it, by you I think??), actually asking a question can be better. The OP has had 2 pieces of advice that he wouldn't of got had he just read the Wiki.


And just extend on what mwggriffiths said, if you're replacing one 'tired' rubber fuel pipe, its worth doing them all.
Not on an E30, but I've had a rubber pipe split after I renewed one other that had started leaking. Obviously that pipe was past it, but I would say that as the pressure will always take the route of least resistance, once I'd renewed 1 hose the next weakest point was the damaged one I couldn't see. Result was 1 race not finished, 2 empty fire extinguishers and me needing to rebuild a stock car!

its 8mm bore pipe iv used diesal leak back pipe seems to work fine

That appears to be standard OEM fit and is shown on realoem - my Touring was the same - I replaced it with a continuous run of hose rather than re-fitting the joint.

Ok so refitted a new length of hose today, the old one was quite bad, split end to end and when I pulled on both ends the whole thing just opened up.

I also changed the dizzy cap and rotor arm, I must say out of all the maintenance I've done so far this has made the greatest difference. The contacts on the dizzy were black and thin and the metal strip on the rotor arm was just a tiny black strip, almost no metal left.!

The engine is so smooth and the pick up is amazing, the air filter actually makes an little induction whoosh now at WOT can you believe. Its never performed like this before...

Its also sorted out my low idle issue, no longer at burbling 500rpm but a perky 650rpm and it doesn't drop when I put it in gear or when the lights are on. A great day all round!
