Steering rack help needed please!!

Hi guys, i know i've posted about racks a few times and call me thick but i'm struggling to get my head round it.

i've got a 1990 318is with pas and the rack is f**ked. I'm gonna stick with a standard rack (no e36 or e46) because i wont be doing the rack job myself and dont want to make any more hassle for the guy doing it.


As far as i can see there are two types of rack for the e30, early and late, with the difference being where the pas pipes enter? However having looked at some retailers they then seem to suggest that there are steel and alloy bodied racks as well as fixed or non fixed pinion housing racks.


So as far as i can figure for my car i need a alloy bodied fixed pinion housing later style rack (car is a G REG)


Does this sound right to people or am i talking nonsense?

i wondered whether this would fit but i'm not sure as i'm concerned it also says this rack will fit e36's.

hello mate, if you check this website out:-

and select your car details you should be able to view an illustration of your power steering rack, I have a 316i LUX and the rack is the same as the 318i models.

If your buying from eBay...check that you get some sort of warranty with the rack im due to changing my one soon as well.

The website is not really user friendly but pretty straight forward.
