One of my M.O.T fails was ¨Nearside Front Brake hose excessively damaged¨

Does this just refer to the section that connects to the caliper? If so how involved is it to replace?

Yes, removal is a case of unscrewing it from the caliper and from the fixed line on the car and replacing it with a new one, you'll have to take the caliper off to screw the new one in (you can cut the old one out)

Just hope its not seized to the hard brake line or you'll be replacing that too - soak it in penetrating fluid overnight before attempting to undo it.

Cheers, both of you. Any tips on stopping the brake fluid draining away or do you just bleed it and refill the reservoir?

Correct you just need to bleed it through after fitting the new hose.

Soak the bleed nipple in penetrating fluid too or you'll be replacing the caliper if it shears off  Been there done that

You don't need to remove the caliper, dunno why I said that. What I probably meant was you will end up removing the caliper as the sucker will be seized on!
