I smashed the sump on my M42 in January and finally pulled my finger out and started work on it earlier on. Once I had the lower sump off I noticed that I had an huge crack in the upper sump. Have the all the part to sort it out now but was wondering if it's possible to change the upper sump without pulling the engine?

Cheers,
Jamie

Sump can be changed without pulling the engine, yes.
You have access to the oil pick up with the lower sump removed, and no oil pump down in the sump like on a M20. IIRC, you still have to lift the engine a bit, but it's nothing like the mission it is with a M20.

Cheers Dutch for the link, good info on that. Most likely I'll be back with more problems later.
Cheers.
