After installing an M52 for a customer, we started it for literally 1 second to make sure it all worked,
and it sprung in to life, woohoo
so on with the prop diff exhaust etc etc
started to fill the radiator,( which leaked grrrr)
turned the car over to bleed the system up properly and.........

It does not sound good at all,
it's coming from the front of the engine,
and im sure it's around the bottom pully

Sounds like a sticky alternator to me, run it with the belt off to be sure.
Idles nice though

It's not the alternator, that is as quiet as a mouse, but it does sound like it,

I first thought.... Water pump, but it's defiantly coming from below the pump,
And there's only one thing below that

I'll pull it apart tomorrow, im sure iv got some spare tensioners somewhere,
swap them over and like you say run it without the belt and see whats what,

Might aswell pull the pump out while im there and check it out....

Wey, it turned out to be
The tensioner,
Guide wheel thing
And the alternator

All rough as fu..
But new ones stuck on today, sorted it right out
