Big power skylines and supras aside, i think jap cars have the gayest image.

Nothing worse than the sight of a 30 something meathead driving a 'scooby' or a mitsubshi evo.

What do you guys think?

All modernish (i.e post 1990) Jap stuff is wrong. Fast and Furious Council Drift etc. Type R-soles and whizz bang Scoobies are just nasty. Don't care how fast they are.

The only Japs worth being seen in are proper old ones, 240Z Datsuns, early seventies Celicas, early seventies Toyota Crowns (esp. Coupes), Datsun 280C plus nicely modded 140J Violets and 160B/180B Bluebirds.

Have owned two and both were exceptionally good , in there own different ways.
1988 mr2 mk 1, a real blast to drive, not on long journeys though.
1992 lwb 2.5tdi Pajero . More Extras than enough inc, twin battery pack, heated leather
seats that folded down into a double bed. Bit juicy and slightly under powered though.
So, nothing against them, per se.

Mk1 mr2 was such a fun car. It's a shame Toyota make mostly boring looking cars now (brilliantly reliable though they may be).

My last car, a Subaru Legacy estate, was, pound for pound, one of the best cars in the world.

Nasty cheap tin with shitty plasticy interiors. Engines are only saving grace.

Fast and furious made things far worse and the image very poor.

Most jap stuff is seriously council. From max power drift wannabe's to council estate lucida grand lounge imports on northern irish "private" plates.

I don't dislike all jap cars in the same way that I hate french stuff.

However as per the OP I can't stand the knuckle-dragging class of nobhead usually found behind the wheel of an Impreza or an Evo.

on the A5 today I left some scooby driving t1t covered in diesel smoke by knowing what lane to be in when he didn't - he then decided he had to prove a point by blasting past me and nearly taking out the car in front a few miles later. Wow so your subaru is faster than a diesel mondeo. Big deal you tw@t

My best mate has a Mistubishi FTO which he absolutely loves but I just dont see the appeal

It handles well as its so small and low but you have to scream the nuts off it everywhere as its an Auto.

Not my bag - always preferred low down grunt to having to rev to 9k to get it to go.

I had use of a new Integra Type R for a couple of days back in the late 90's when the whole V-Tec thing was still new - it went like a missile at the top of the rev range but was fookin hopeless at anything under 5k. I couldnt wait to give it back.

I fancy a black r32 GTR. Oem with a few mods. I know somebody with one running about 700bhp - certainly doesn't hang around.

The Jap car culture is really different to the one I have experienced with my E30 and yes there is a lot of council action there. I've owned 2 jap cars , a MK1 MX5 V-special and my current ride my Impreza P1. For me I had always loved the 2 door Impreza from watching Mcrae and Burns in the WRC. I also have a guilty pleasure for like the Evo 6 Tommy Mak editions. Also after years of playing Gran Turismo I've gotten a taste for some of the Jap offerings..

The newer offerings from Japan are fooking massive with bumps , wings and vents all over. Not the best of looks.

The rb26 and the 3jz 6's are the saving grace of the cars i mentioned. Probably 2 of the best engines ever made.

All the rest are just highly strung 4 pots. And why to scooby owners have to attach all those stickers to their £1200 k reg shitters.

Im not to keen on these brace of new RS fords either....

how is it council???

tuned to 600bhp
carbon bonnet, wings, rear quarters, boot... stripped out interior, fuel cell, cage.... it's a drag car that's had a LOT of money ploughed in to it, all work taken on bar the paintwork by himself... and he's a mechanic for a porsche gt cup challenge team.... hardly council... just because it's not bog standard doesn't mean it's council at all.

my opinion this is a nice and fast car as you say but is a little ott for me to own it ie if the bnnet was standard looking but carbon , but this council word i hear used alot now i think people use it todescribe a car that is not to their liking or not oem , wouldnt council represent chaved up cars with big bumpers gay wheels rip speed stickers a very cheap a fooked car ? ie corsa ?

Nope. What you have mentioned is included within the council category but some people buy cars that are council by default, spend a fortune on "modz innit" - end result = Still council.

The number of Impreza's and Evo's currently languishing on council estates across the country is proof of this.
