Be looking for a new car for the wife soon and was thinking bmw of course.

With 5-6k whats the best car i can expect to buy?
It doesnt need to be fast as it will just be used for the usual wifey stuff and ferrying the kids about.

Anyone any suggestions before she asks for a corsa again.

nowt wrong with a 51 plate as long as it's not from scotland. :)

I'm putting some cash by for a 330i loon or touring, when the IS finally dies that's what I'm having next.

e46 compact? Wifey sized. Just convinced a friend to go BMW and I found him a stunning compact for £2.5k and he loves it.

Lots of change left for toys winkeye

320 petrol or diesel, my mate just got a 54 plate low miler 320 convertible for 5.5k so a 320d saloon should be slightly cheaper or an estate about the same.

a mate has an e46 330 saloon in silver with full leather. great car with loads of space. or a touring if you need more. hes selling his for under 6k with low mileage on - like 60-70,000 odd (for a rep-wagon anyway). having said that, if you go on pistonheads there is a serious overload of e46 bmws out there so you should be spoilt for choice - well over 40 pages worth last time i looked. i wouldve thought this is due to people being raped on fuel prices towing around in a big engined 46er 8O... but his does 300 miles to £65 and i got 190 miles to £65 out of my old e36 318is coupe.... total tossage. 318is is a decent engine until you put it in a 36...terrible :?
