Hi all,
i notice we haven't got an EWS removal section in here? And as i'm about to remove mine from it's current home, and incidentally don't know how to do it yet. i thought that if people could help me to do it that i would write a post with pictures etc on how to do it so others could have a 'how to' guide on whats needed required etc.
i'm assuming though it's just a ring around the ignition barrel and a wiring loom going to a small ecu somewhere? are there any other parts other than the key?
also how does it actually join into the loom of the e30 engine/car?

you need the antenna ring, keys, ECU, EWS ECU and the antenna module. the antenna and module are on/under the steering column. the EWS ECU is under/behind the glovebox.

If you want to get rid of the EWS have a chat with Danthe on here. He has a solution...

ok cool, i think i'm gonna keep the ews tho as these cars are easy enough to steal as it is and this should improve the security of it a bit.

when you cut the module and ecu off the e36 loom mind and get as much wiring as possible. supposedly it helps later when re-wiring, not that i would know as i got dan to do it.

This is what you need to remove
I recall the box with the yellow connector on is behind the glovebox area on the E36, rest of the stuff is around the driver side

wise move to keep the ews kev!
i have a thatcham cat 1 viper with pager on my car and also now have ews.... imo the extra security device is brill as if they could bypass my cat 1, which i very much doubt, they still would never in a million get the car running without, what i like to call now ''the magic key''
if youve got it use it imo, would be silly for anyone to suggest getting rid
not just that but its also for me the piece of mind knowing for a fact she aint going nowhere!

Anyway, i got around to removing my EWS after so i thought i'd take a few photos showing locations of where they all are.
EWS antenna ring, which pops off with a quick pry of a screwdriver and is located on the ignition barrel.
The EWS ECU, this is mounted under the steering column.
the other EWS module, which is located behind the glovebox.
the other part you require is the car ecu and the key (or keys if possible). It's simple enough to remove and just involves tracing wires and removing them bit by bit.
