steering issue at motorway speeds

i took my e30 to a rolling road day a few months back and had been sat for quite some time but passed its mot with no issues
when i got to 70-80 there is slight play in the steering...

like theres a small gap in the turn before i feel the wheels,
i can move the steering wheel say a 5 - 10 mm one way or another before i start to turn and when im driving straight it while drift in and out of this "small gap" its bloody horibble!!

would this be to do with a steering cuplink?? or the like ?? i know my explation may be a bit on the strange side but thats the only way i can describe it ha

i want to sell the car and can not do so untill this is done as i'll feel quilty that its not perfect!!

Open the bonnet and get an assistant to waggle the wheel whilst you watch the rubber guibo on the steering shaft.These break up over time and give 'vague' steering.

A repair kit is available from your dealer,you need to remove the shaft,grind of the rivets,re-build with a new guibo and the special shouldered bolts that come with it.

If it turns out that the MOT man has done his job properly after all, check the front tracking. A small amount of toe out can give symptoms like this.

ah righto...

well i did have my front shocks n springs changed to uprated ones but my track rods wernt taken off so that shoud'lt be the casuse shoud it??

i hope he did as hes a mate of mine and i always go to him and say to never skim on this car as its ovbs cabale of doing very high speeds ( like 150mph ) so do hope so!!
or theres going to be a few ears being bashed !!!!!

im going to check this out today to see if theres any movement in the guibo
