Hi. My '87 325i cabriolet has the classic 'wobbly fuel gauge'. Having shorted the pins on the sender connector the fuel light illuminates and the tank reads full. Does this point to a faulty sender, or is it still worth investigating the brass nut behind the gauge? The reading seems to get more erratic the lower the fuel level is.

Cheers,

Tim

My fuel gauge was a bit pants, now and then it would read full or when near empty it would shoot up to a1/4 then driving along it would drop to empty.
If a gave the clocks a tap it would move to where ever it wanted to.
Took the clocks out tightend the brass nut and jobs a good en works perfect now 8)
Also my temp gauge would have a dicky fit but since i did the nuts its all good.

I changed the o-ring on the sender unit today, which I spotted needed doing when I changed the lift pump a few weeks ago. Oddly the gauge has been rock solid since: whether taking the sender out and putting it back in has helped I don't know, but fingers crossed!
