When turning at low speeds there is a loud whine either coming from the rack or the pump, (cant work out which) and steering is alot heavier than usual. I know power steering has a whine normaly but this is really loud, even the girlfriend said something was wrong!
Any ideas or thing to give a check?

First things first, check your power steering fluid level - if it's low then the rack will moan as it gets towards full lock. Also check the tension of your steering rack belt - it may have loosened off a bit and require tightening.
