Hi guys, heard a bit of chat about using s14 con rods in m10 engines to get big power gains.
Could someone please elaborate on this as I am very keen to find out more about this ie. How much it costs, what gains are like, what else should be done aswell, who can do it.
Any help / info would be really appreciated.
Cheers

I stand to be put right, but usually uprated con-rods are installed to deal with big power, rather than to create big power. Sometimes shortened rods can make an engine revier, but this needs to be combined with decking (head milling). Longer conrods can create a 'stroker' engine, with more torque.

The length of conrods neither increase or decrease stroke. This is dealt with by the crankshaft. If you increase the stroke, shorted rods are used to stop the pistons from hitting the head.
But you're right, uprated conrods are installed to deal with increased power, tey don't create power.

Ooops!
I got that wrong. I learned on Ford Pinto engines and there is a lot of shenanagins with swapping cranks/ rods. There are two types of 1800 pinto and Ford actually copied the tuners to make the long throw type.

Oh, ok its just that I heard you can increase the capacity of the m10 to 2100 cc using rods / crank. Nevermind

The S14 is basically an M10 bottom end with a twin cam head...
I believe the 2.3l crank is a direct replacement, although I suspect some tweeking of the conrods/piston/head will be necessary to get the clearances required...
Why not just lob an S14 into the M10 shell?

Ah in the same way the cosworth engine share it's block with the 205 Pinto (but little else!). Transplanting an engine is cheaper and easier.

Hi
The S14 crank and roods work with the M10, you also use M30 3.5 pistons and you get a good 2.2 motor.
