I was going to say 'SIX GRAND??!!', but it's worth the coin. It's a lovely thing. No biggie about the lack of leather - Ford leather was truly appalling back then, like recycled grey slip ons - you can't beat mint crushed velours with Chatsworth inserts, or a £1000 retrim using proper Connolly hides.

My dads mate, who incidentally was the owner of my sport in 1992, had a Granada 2.8i Ghia X in silver with full leather.
The VRM was B77 VBU, what a beauty it was.

What a fantastic car, I was always a Rover SD1 man myself but I find eighties Fords growing on me alot and that one there is a real peach, its always keeping your eye on that seller because some of the cars he lists are just utterly superb.

You are spot on Andy. If there is one complaint is the blue interior. my Glacier Y plated 'X' had the same and it grated on me then even back in '87! the charcoal grey chatsworth was so much nicer especially with the Caspian paint.Andyboy wrote:I was going to say 'SIX GRAND??!!', but it's worth the coin. Trev you are a very sick man indeed !
get a bid in , could be a once in a lifetime opportunity ? Grandad's like this don't come up for sale very often
just after i left school I worked in a MOT station as an oil rag,
we had a Black 1985 'B' plate 2.8i ghia X with black leatherzzz and lots of chrome/wood in for a service, I always said I would own one but it's never happend... the MK2 is rare in good nick, possibly rarer than a MK1 Grandad ?

my dad had a mk2 granny new in 1978 and kept it until 1992. I loved that car because, well, basically it was the first car I ever rode in - it was the same age as me!
I remember that the seat velour was so crappy I managed to wear it away by the age of 7. Truly great car and the first car I ever washed!
Yay to nostalgia.

These old turds used to be the donor for the early Dax Tojeiro Cobra replica kits. Before they went Jag iirc.

2.8i's were approx 160bhp IIRC. They weigh in heavy as well. They are not near a 325 e30 in the performance arena really.polsta wrote:still a 2.8 , how would that fair against a 325i e30 ?
But this is not about performance for me. The mk2 Grananda was the last real "big" ford they made. Liken it to the e34 in the BMW world. It was the last of the well built, quality cars and with the Ghia X as the flag ship these had real Kudos back in the day. The spec as standard was like nothing seen before when it was introduced in 82:
AC
ESR
4 x EW
Trip computer
Elec front seas (standard Ghia only had the drivers elec. X had both)
Heated seats
Check control
and so it goes on.
The Scorpio (int. in 85) was still a nice car but was a step back in the quality stakes and inherited that awful seirra Macphearson strut front end. It had been hit by the ugly stick as well!

That car is the same colour and spec as my second Mk2 granada, Capsian with blue chatsworth trim 2.8i Ghia X!
My first was the same spec and the same trim but the paint colour was strato silver.
Both were Y reg though, this was in '99,'00 when i had mine. Had to watch out for the banger racers back then as they would lift them off the street even if they were tidy and taxed!
I would love another mk2, that one in the ad is stunning!
Either a pre facelift 2.8i S, a prefacelift 2.8 Saphire ltd edition, a facelift 2.8i Ghia X (like in the ad) or a facelift 2.8 INJECTION with the dechrome, white TRX alloys and an LSD!
Wouln't mind an uber rare 2dr mk2 but they are all LHD as far as i know.
One thing a Mk2 is screaming out for imo is a V8 but i wouldnt bastardise a nice one to do this. A miley but solid X/Y/A reg 2.8 ghia carb would do the trick.

Notice how Ford swapped the building of their cars from this side of the channel to Germany, totally missing that shithole in the middle which is France? Strange that innit!Jesus325iTouring wrote:Dagenham scrap!
