e34 m50 wires

i took my m50 out my e34 today an got a few little questions first theres a little plug that sits beside the ecu that is joined to the loom its next to the 3 relays an it seems to go under the dash any idea what it could be? also mine is a auto so i need to remove the auto part of the loom so does that mean i have to cut it all out or can some stay? any help would be great im a bit thick :D

Can't answer the first part as my loom was e36 and I didn't have that problem. But mine was auto and I cut out all the wires I didn't want/need. But I managed to cut off the lambda connector at the same time so be careful!

Mine's back together now and in the car, haven't started it yet so you should take what I've done with a pinch of salt.

What was of invaluable help to me was the wiring diagrams from the e36 bentley manual. I got a pdf of it from ebay for about a fiver and printed the bits I needed. I used the power distribution, starter, charging, and engine management diagrams.

yea ok thanks will have a go tomorrow still not sure what the little plug thing is!! :?

Seriously, get your hands on the E34 wiring diagrams and pull back the plug boot until you can see the colour of the wires. Almost anything can be identified like this.
