engine knocking

Right. My 323i engine started knocking at about 5500+ rpm. At this engine speed the engine also consumes craploads of oil.

Below 5500 rpm sounds perfect. No oil consumption. Is this an indication of soon to come engine failure?

Sounds like a possible piston break up, best to have a look before it lets go.
