pin 14 wiring problems

wiring in a m52 and have nothing in pin 14/speed signal on e36 side.anyone shead some light?

I'm in the exact same position as you mate,

I'v been told to join it to 3 different wires :?

so till i know for sure what to do with it, it's staying capped off.

I'd like to know this as well. I don't have that hooked up in my swap either. Can we just connect pin 14 to the speed signal at the back of the cluster?

Do you guys have a speed signal going into x20(e36) pin 9?

I can't find any reference in the BMW wiring diagrams about x20 pin 14 for the m52 engine. For all other engines pin 14 shows as the speed signal from the cluster.

im going to try with pin 14 capped.if i have running problems will try it connected to pin 9 will let you know if it work or goes up in smoke 8O

X20 pin 14 on the M52 engine loom does not exist. There's no wire fitted, so nothing needs to be connected to it.

X20 pin 9 on the M52 engine loom is an output from the ECU and would normally be fed to the ABS/ASC module. Something to do with the traction control system.

E30 C101 pin 14 is the road speed signal from the back of the instrument cluster and was originally fed to the ECU as it required a road speed signal input.

I've read a number of times that people are connecting X20 pin 9 to C101 pin 14. This is completely wrong. Why would you want to connect the E30 road speed signal to a wire that's supposed to be an output from the M52 ECU? It may not actually do any harm, but it's completely pointless.

If you look at the M52 wiring diagrams, there is actually no road speed signal sent to the ECU, so in theory E30 pin 14 is not required any more. Saying that, I'm also aware of people with M52 conversions that are getting an error logged for the lack of a road speed signal. Not sure of the outcome of that though.

IIRC on my K plate touring there was a blue wire that went to the back of the instrument cluster which was something to do with speed signal which increased the volume of the stereo with speed. It wasn't subsequently connected when I had messed about changing clusters over though.
