Hopefully picking up a bottom end this weekend but it will need a good clean and paint.
Just wondering if there are any precautions I should take before cleaning it such as blocking off the oilways and covering the pistons and bores?
Could these get damaged by powerhosing it?
Once cleaned then, whats the best way of getting any crap out of the oil etc? Just put in a can of flush and fill it with cheap oil for a few miles then change?

Cool, would it be safe to use a power washer?

but the fairy and parafin works a treat at shifting crap off when mixed
its the same as the stuff you buy anyway but damn sight cheaper
get a scrubbin brush and block will clean up in no time then rinse off properly Daz

and adam, if its just the outside you're gonna clean, use a pressure washer if you want but keep the pressure fairly low

I powerewashed a 325 last weekend, used Gunk to loosen up the oily crap first and covered all the vital bits with the fingers off disposable gloves and tie wraps. Try to keep the postons and bores dry or powerhose the block upside down.
Works a treat.
