Can anyone show me a picture of the Glove box light and where it should be? Mine doesn't even seem to have a fitting for a light, let alone any wiring.

Thanks, that'd be excellent
Just had a quick look at mine and the light seems to be above the plastic cover near where the latch goes - surprised it actually works as mentioned above 9 times out of 10 they're disconnected.
I took some pics but it would be better to remove the plastic cover first

Previously owned loads of old E30s, E34s, a few E36s, E32s, E39s and an E38.
Currently in a diesel Audi - miss me old E30's....

On E30s from around the end of '88 onwards, the supply for the glovebox light was transferred to the same fuse as the indicators (#4), which is ignition switched.
The design of the light fitting is such that if it is left without a bulb fitted, or isn't pushed home properly in the metal plate, it short circuits the supply and blows the fuse. A very common cause of "no indicators" on E30s.
