Can anyone recommend a good high temp exhaust paint?

I have decided to put a standard system back on my car and have bought an unrusty genuine system that i want to stop from going rusty.

I used the "VHT"brand paint and it seems to have lasted quite well considering its now been on the (original) system about 3+ years.Could probably do with a re-application now to the front sections but the rear sections are still excellent. In all fairness,i dont use the car in bad weather and only do a small mileage(about 2k ish)per year, though i did spend a fair amount of time on the preparation of the metal.

What sort of prep did you do? Did you prime it in any way or just use the VHT?

How come your going back to standard Barry? Are you keeping the BTB on there or changing the whole lot?

There must be some type of heat resistant powder coat? It would be a more durable finish.

The BTB is staying Oz but the rest is going in favour of a genuine BMW system.

I'm going back to standard as its more in keeping with the theme of the car, ie OEM.

Sounds like a good plan, you never know, might be a few more ponys to be had by going back to the standard system.

its certainly more durable, and the temps are not as high as manifolds which tend to get ceramic coating on them if they want a nice finish

it would work on the rear box but at the down pipes where its hotter it may not last.

if yoy just want to preserve the system, it may be worth a shout. the down pipes on a 3 piece system can be left alone, they hardly ever fail.

looking on some bike forums, powder coat seems to have held out. there some powder coaters near pete who i've used

Its just the centre and rear boxes that i need done. The manifold and x pipe is stainless.

Used VHT exhaust paint before Barry and I have even used VHT brake caliper paint aswell on exhausts..

Just clean it and spray it on. The caliper paint has a ceramic look to it and it does look nice... I spayed all the silver bits on my engine in the silver caliper paint as it gets quite hot in there but nowhere near the 100 + deg calipers get.

The problem with powder coating is its quite easy to chip it, and if you want to touch it up its a rip out job. The VHT is just a spray can so its alot easier to maintain.

No i didnt primer it.I just thourghly cleaned the metal and then sprayed on a few coats of the stuff.
