Cleaning heavy grime/grease off seat base?

Ive just got hold of a really tidy pair of iS fronts seats.
Problem is the guy who owned them is an engineer so the drivers base is badly covered in grease and shite of his trousers.
Any suggestions on what tgo get the worst of it off with?
Ive thought about scrubbing them up with Soap powder etc then pressure washing it down but with the crap weather its never going to dry.
Other option is to strip of the seat covering and chuck it in the washing machine.....to much work is that.
My Mrs has got one of those cheap little steam cleaner things but not sure that is upto the job either.
So any suggestions as to what to try?
Ive read on here in the past that brake cleaner is the same as dry cleaning fluid,reckon that might help or fook it right up?

Brake cleaner will help and you already have a steam cleaner, just do not use a scrubbing brush is it may damage the seat fibres

Might be worth trying a bit of home made degreaser - half white spirit, half fairy liquid - slap it on thick, leave for a few mins, wipe off the worst and do the rest with your steam cleaner.
