Im getting ready to put my m50b25 out of my e36 325i into my 1990 318is. they are both euro (german) spec. The 318is also has no power steering.
So after a lot of research, ive put together this part list.
these are the items i should have no problems getting at junkyards, theres a lot of them around here, or just buy them oem:
Clio Servo (or golf) (will i even need a smaller servo than the 318is on a LHD car?)
rubber engine mounts from an e28 535i or m5
E34 525 24v sump, oil pickup pipe & dipstick tube
radiator and electric fan
As far as the gearbox, this is what i will go with:
318is gearbox
318is gearbox mount
318is shifter
e30 325 (m20) clutch & flywheel
e30 325 (m20) starter motor
this is what i have questions though, why on (e30beemerlad's) build, does he specifically say the e30 320 propshaft, why not stay with an e30 325 m20 one? and why e30 320 gear shift rods? can anyone explain it?
can anyone verify that the m42 (318is) box uses the 325 prop? why wouldnt it work with this build?
as far as exhaust goes, it's the only thing that will have to be wait-and-see as far as fitment goes. ill try to use the e36 325 manifolds and see if it fits. only question is WITHOUT power steering, and on LHD car, will i have fitment issues with this? will i have to get the manifolds cut? or go with other manifolds? (btb, fritz, scorpion, etc.)
Parts list for M50b25 -> 318is

The servo fouls the inlet manifold, so a smaller one will be required. On RH drive cars, it's possible to move the standard servo closer to the wing to provide clearance, as I have on mine, but this won't be possible with LH drive.
I've no experience of using an iS box with a M50, but the engine is on fixed mounts, whereas the gearbox mounts are in slots. Presumably the gearbox sits in a slightly different place when attached to a M50, necessitating the use of a 320 propshaft and 320 gear linkage.
