engine fu#ked?

hi guys,i was on the m/way 2day and the coolant light came on,
pulled onto hard shoulder,water/steam everywhere,waited 20 mins then put in a litre of water i carry in boot,drove on to the next turn off but the traffic was hellish and the car started making grinding noises from the engine!anyway,2 cut a long story short,it was a burst hose which ive fixed,but will there be any damage to the engine?car seems ok now,but the noise was metal on metal!!

Possibly the water pump let go (metal grinding noise) causing the system to overheat and pop the hose?
If not, just fix the leak, go for a gentle drive, monitor the temp and noises etc, and if nothing can be heard - all good!

does it only overheat at operating temp?

mine does this still

no grinding noise luckily
