Hi, i have a problem with my 1989 325 sport which is when on full throttle it reeks of petrol in the cabin it does not smell all the time and have checked the filler neck (which seems in good order), i ve lifted up the back seat but cant see anything untoward. its really annoying and im assuming it wont be helping my fuel consumption. any pointers in the right direction are appreciated.
thanks

try filling your car up only a quarter and trying then, when i fill it up to a half tank i allways get that smell when i punch it, i need to look into it soon, think it might be the tank there has to be a hole at the top or sides or somewhere?

my fuel consumption is like 18mpg on a 316i, get your fuel lines checked also ...

Fuel tanks often suffer with rust around where the rubber pipe connects to the tank just infront of the driver rear wheel area. Only solution is a replacement tank.

Otherwise, worth checking the rubber fuel pipes as the come into the engine bay down on the passenger side of the bulkhead, follow them upto where they disappear under the inlet manifold. Pipes perish and become a bit porous, so can leak. Check it out as it could be a fire hazard. You're not running an uprated fuel pressure regulator like a FSE power boost valve are you?
