I have been owned by a 320i. for a few years now and I have always felt the car was ”awrong”a in the way it drove.
But, hey it is a 320i. They got no pull ”“ right?
So I dropped in a 2.7 lump - same wrong feeling ”“ this can’t be right because nothing was used from the old engine.
So, new engine, new prop, new suspension, new stainless back box, new induction system”“ same crap drivability (with more torque?)
Then I changed the original front exhaust box for a new OEM one and found I have been driving with a badly restricted exhaust from day one. Collapsed baffles inside box.

So now of course I shall be taking the 2.7 out and going back to the 2 litre. (In your dreams)

Symptoms of a restricted exhaust? ”“ Rough idle, lack of power, high fuel consumption and a feeling of being ”aheld back”a. If any of this sounds familiar get a vacuum gauge on the inlet manifold.

Don’t do what I did and end up with an evil 2.7 ”“ but now I will just have to live with it. Oh well, I will just have to suffer all that power and torque.

You mean the almighty power of the 320i created a vortex of such magnitude it bolloxed the baffles? 8O

What make was the original front box - just so we know what to avoid!

Of course the rust may have helped.

OEM front box - but 22 years old.

It was only your mild chip that kept it up with a milk float. For that, my thanks.
