lift engine or drop subframe for access dude.

you can remove the oil pump with sump dropped approx 25mm to give more room but PITA ging back.

pull the rack pinch bolt, drop the front subframe and its an OK experience.

stock sump is shite for surge, big wing design best option.

not that hard actually, undo mount bolts from subframe, lift engine up with a scissor jack with a bit of wood between engine and jack.
undo all the sump bolts, and you should be able to remove the sump without taking off the oil pick up depending on how high you lift the engine, i lifted it right off the subframe mounts and was able to take the sump off completely without undoing oil pick up.
hope that helps.

Why does the engine have to be lifted? I'm guessing i'm wrong in assuming I can just remove all the sump bolts and drop it from the engine then!

Oil pick up pipe sits below the sump bolt line, ergo, the sump will not slide off without either reaching in through the side to unbolt it or lifting the engine high enough for the sump to clear.

Easy way,as Ant and others have said,is to lower the front crossmember.
