The M40 models unfortunately have the coolant tank integrated into the side of the radiator.
Mine just sprung a big leak this evening while I was bleeding the system after adding antifreeze. The leak is at the base of the clear plastic tank where it joins the black plastic housing underneath it.
There are 2 allen key bolts on the top of the tank nousing next to the bleed screw which looked like these hold the plastic reservoir together so I tried tightening them but no joy.
Can these reservoir tanks be dismantled, from the radiator core and replaced, can they be repaired in situ or is there anything to stop me having to otherwise dump a rad which has worked great up to 84k miles.

What do you make of these cooling system sealing products? I assume they're only suitable for a damaged radiator core.

What should I have to pay for a good used rad from a breaker if there is no other way?

Any advice would be much appreciated,

All comes apart, and all parts should be available seperately from your local friendly dealer.
There's a large gasket ring at the bottom of the clear tank which could be your problem.

Brian,

I've taken out the 2 x allen bolts on the top of the rad and lifted the black cover of the tank casing. As you say it looks like the whole thing does come apart.
How do I get the clear tank up out of the black casing without damaging it?
Is it glued in place or merely a friction fit?

Thanks for any more hints you might be able to give on this,

AFAIK, it should pull out.
