Hello - I'm new to the E30 forum.

After 12 years of road rallying an Alfa-sud I finally scrapped it and have bought a E30 318is. It is just about ready for the 1st event at the weekend, but I have a problem that I was hoping somebody might be able to help with.

When you open the door, the interior lights do not come one, but the marker lights on the electric window switches illuminate. With to door shut the electric windows do not work, but when the door is open and the marker lights are one then they do. This is only recently started to happen, so it is more likely to be a loose wire than a incorrect wiring. When you open the door you can hear a relay click under the dash. I would appreciate any pointers.

Also, completely unrelated, I heard that on US cars the dip goes off when on high beam, but on UK cars it stays on. Can I change mine easily to be like the US (can run spots then with only 4 beams max allowed at any time)

Thanks in advance :D

interior lights:
check the position of the switches, and fuses and bulb connections as well as the bulb fillaments. they are on a different circuit to the iluminated switches and as a result, unrelated. Also check your interior light delay relay (if you have one)
The electric windows only work with the door open or the ignition switch in the on position on anyones car (well mine at least)

You can change the headlight main beam, but you will need to re-wire the fuse box.

Thanks Smithy318i

I will take a look this evening.
Does anyone have a wiring diagram and fusebox location chart so I know where to look. Also, do you know wehre the relay is under the dash that I can hear clicking.

I don't think it is the bulbs for the interior lights as they both were working before this happened.

Problem solved - Thanks for your help. :) (It was only fuses) It was just that the windows worked with the doors open that confused me, but this is normal.
