Strange beeping noise

Hi guys,
I've just got a 1990 316i that makes strange beeping noises at random intervals .
It beeps 3 times in a row...its done it driving along and whilst sat in a car park with the engine running.
There is no alarm in the car so its not that....any ideas what it is?!

You are *NOT* going to believe this, but I had this on an old Cavalier, and the previous owner had left a pager on the floor under the front seat!

It was there for months before it went off - obviously a popular guy.

Sounds like something's warning you its battery's low, doesn't it... not the BM though...

could it be a radio security thing. or a tuning thing.
radio in our van does it and we don't know why. but every now and again it gives off 4 beeps.

Your car a 316i lux? It will have the 6 button computer, with time date, outside temp and memo function, when the memo function is switched on, it beeps 3 times in a row about 10 seconds before the end of each hour, back in the E30's yuppie days, it was to remind the driver of hourly news bulletins etc.
The ME should be showing on the display, to stop the beeping, press the memo button.

It is a lux with a digi clock...though the screen on it is fooked!
That does explain it though!
