I'm about to do the short shift conversion, since my lever has been hack sawed, bent and the linkage is rooted, but I am not sure if it will all work out on my car.
I've read the zone short shift article (well written btw) and several others, but nobody mentions doing it to pre-86 cars with the shift plate instead of the arm. Is it the same thing, or is there anything different that needs to be done?
Also, if I'm having a sloppy shift, do I need to replace bushings at the lever end, or do I need to replace them at the gearbox end?

Thanks alot for the link mate. I think I'll be doing the Z3 1.9 lever, and replacing every damn bushing and mounting point on the whole linkage. Ive used quick fixes to make it usable for too long now, it really needs a complete overhaul, so I may as well do the short shift while Im at it.
