Here i go again, messing with stuff :( , i get 30mins lunch break so i though to myself........hmmm i could do a quick (and easy) oil change.
So i drain the oil from the sump, put on new filter, put sump plug back in and just as im tightening it...........CCCCRRRAAACCCKKKK !!!!!! the fcucking thing snaps  and falls ff onto the ground ving half the bolt inside unable to reach  .
So after about 20 mins of pure panic and speaking to a few of my workmates, one of the guys points out that the sump plug is hollow and he's got some tools called "easy-out" wich sort of fit into the hole and you give it a tap and then unscrew :D .
It took me 60 seconds to get it out and luckily for me there is a BMW dealkership at the bottom of the road where i work so i nipped in and Ԛ£1.62p later job done.
Apparently the sump plug had snapped cos it didnt have a washer and i did it up too tight . LESSON LEARNED !!!
This is just one of my many tales of DIY car maintenance. Luckily for me its never too expensive touch wood :hammer:
Hmmmm what shall i fcuk up next ?

Lee.

Wow, I didn't thin kthose easy out things actually worked.

THe sump plug is done up only to just tighter than hand tight. The bolts that hold the sump on are even loser, you could probably undo them with your fingers. Very very loose indeed.

When i gave the sport it's first oil change after i bought it,i discovered that half the head of the sump bolt was worn away 8O .Methinks the last owner had some mighty high speedbumps locally, one reason not to do a 60/40 drop.

To be really honest i was in a real panic, all i could see were Ԛ£Ã”šÃ‚£Ãƒ”šÃ‚£Ãƒ”šÃ‚£Ãƒ”šÃ‚£Ãƒ”šÃ‚£Ãƒ”šÃ‚£ ??????????? an i'm off on me hols next week and my MOT runs out 2nd Oct, tax out 30th Sept, i thought WHYYYYY MEEEEEEEE ?
My face must have been a picture  .
I thought "the missus is gunna kill me "...... all sorts of stuff going thru my mind.
All i can say is "Be careful", i was real lucky to have a set of easy-outs close to hand and a dealership in eyesight for the parts.
Good old BMW they think of everything, if the plug wasnt hollow i would have been in real trouble, i guess they make them like that for this very reason.

I LOVE BMW

I actually usually replace the bolt every time i do an oil change, I think the extra Ԛ£1.50 or so is worth it!

But lucky escape!

You get a copper washer with the replacement filter, but it's easy to miss it in the bag with the other washers for the filter container.

Don't feel bad, everybody does something wrong at some point, but most won't admit to it
