Hi, iv got a 89' 325i cabby which has 2 locks on the drivers door, 1 is the main to open/lock the door the other is, i think, an alarm which a magnectic key goes in/out to activate and deactivate an alarm fitted from factory, the guy i bought it off said the never used it. How does this work, iv read the manual but don't undestand it, its says to change variable code and owners code! How can i check to see if its working? Worried i might put the key in and something other than activating it might happens.

wondered what the one by the number plate was!

When I had the door card off I noticed all the mechs behind the drivers door lock - would it cause any problems if you removed, plated and sprayed - I'm not running the original alarm anyway - bl00dy ugly thing on the door anyway!

The immobiliser connection to the main car loom is above the middle of the glovebox. There should be a couple of green wires hanging down from the loom with a two pin plug on it.
There will be another plug connected to this with probably a green and a green/red wire coming from it, which come from the immobiliser control box mounted above the engine ECU.
If you are lucky, there will be a similar plug fitted with a loop of green wire tied up to the loom nearby. Unplug the green and green/red wire, and plug the loop in its place. If the loop isn't there, cut the green and green/red wires a couple of inches from the plug, and make your own loop.
