Moderator: martauto
hi guys i got a 325i f reg, i jump startd a toyota from the phantom positive and neg in the engine bay and my headunit was on now the headunit does not work and the car turns over but does not start, there is no sparks. All the fuses are fine even the headunit fuse is fine but the headunit does not work nor does the car, ive chekd relays and ecu they are fine . I am stranded so need help asap please. Thanks.
ive done some research and found that a 50 amp fuse may be popped which is on a red wire from the positive of the battery under a heat shrink. what is a heat shrink and where can this 50 amp fuse be located ????
my battery is in the boot.

no fusible link on the battery relocation loom dude, I 100% guarantee you on that.
never noticed one on the Engine bay loom ether, E36/34 yes, E30 no although Brianmooooooooooooore may have some more to offer on that.
the car cranks yes , so I doubt there's an issue there, what is the likelihood of some long forgotten immobiliser springing into life ??? all wired up to the stereo in true alarm fitter style.
is there power @ the coil ???? does the fuel pump and DME relay click when the car is cranked ??

I refer you to part 14 here, Mr Ant: http://bmwfans.info/parts/catalog/E30/2 ... ring_sets/
One fitted to every E30 I've seen with a rear battery, and I expect is very relevant to this problem!

there's a fewer thin wires that go onto the phantom terminal I would check these are still connected as they normally supply power to the fuse box for stuff like the radio extra
now i just went to the car and the central locking dont work fully due to a flat battery which is weird so when i left the car it still mustve drained some current from somewhere...?? this is weirdddd....briannmoreeee i need your support mate , anyone....????
thanks.
thanks.
yes there is an imobilser but thats on a different circuit to the headunit. i made my own circuit for the headunit which the yellow and red were also connected to the positive phantom and the negative to the body where rest of the wires connected too. the immboliser which is very old works fine just the headunit dont work nor does the car itself...it turns over but just doesnt start...???
will check the 50 amp fuse located in the back boot but to be honest i dont think ive ever seen a fuse on the positive wire from the battery but i will check to confirm.
it wants to start but theres somethink not allowing it too....no spark at all...no fuel...however the fuel pump is working...one of my local mechanic said if there is a fuel cut off switch on these cars ....???
thanks.

update...after all that and yes that white rubber looking thing underneath it was a 50amp metal strip fuse that had a cut in it. i bypassed it with a piece of metal and it started perfectly and so i bought it home ready to solder a new piece of 50 amp blade fuse to the existing wiring loom.
