hi guys i just liberated a new in box random orbital car polisher

120w
3000rpm
240mm pad

how badly am i gonna fuck up my paint.... lol

basically i need some advice on how to use it what products to use it with and how not to ruin my paintwork

Just dont press down to hard or leave it on the same spot for ages else you'll burn your paint and leave swirl marks all over the place, while your getting used to it just use normal car polish and when you feel ready use something more abrasive

Yeah water helps dont use to much though just have a bucket of water and use your fingers/hands to flick it on the area your working on

A quick spray on the pad with Meguiars quick detailer works well I found, then the polish on top - that's the same lubricant that goes with their clay kit.

ok so.
snowfoam (got a cheapy detergent bottle from halfords and with snowfoam in it holding it upside down actually gets fiarly good foam results.)
rinse
wash the car (2 buckets)
dry
clay
polish with the new toy
wax

Yeah that will do,

Depending on the state of th your paint use a harsher cutting polish first, then work down to a finer polish on a finishing pad.

If it's a DA polisher (orbital) the only way you are likeley to damage your paint is if you throw the machine at the car, unlike a rotary you are highly unlikeley to generate the kind of temps needed to burn through paint, more likely you'll wear the paint away, however that would take forever with a DA. The only polish I know of that is used with water is Farecla and thats really not worth bothering with, instead invest in some Menzerna 203s, I find it a good one stop shop, it's self lubricating, no water required, instead just a quick spritz of quick detailer on your fresh clean pad. To be honest as a detailer I tend to use a DA for tight jobs, tops of bumpers, that sort of thing, you have more control over it, you tell it where you want it to go, a rotary on the other hand is more of a beast and you have to work with it and constantly adjust your position according to shapes and panel curves, trust me when you get the hang of the DA you'll soon want a rotary.

Try the hexlogic pads, i like them at the moment.

I also have megs pad, its easy to spend ALOT of cash on things like that.
