Not long ago somebody posted that it's possible to add a lighting control unit that would delay the interior lights for 10 seconds or so (for some reason most models seemed to get it except the Tourings). Apparently the part can be scavenged from most E32 7ers or E34 5ers. Part number is 61 31 1 373 974.

The question is: where in these cars will I find it? I was out at the wreckers not long ago and we opened up the footwell kick panels of a number of suitable donor cars and couldn't the unit anywhere. Thoughts, anyone?

Thanks!

mine has the light delay, hardly any cars had it, and
some were fitted with the heated door lock instead.

on the E34/E32 a lot of the electrical control units are under the rear seat

I have the delay unit in mine, it stays on for roughly 10 secs and then switches off.
My dad had a fully loaded E32 3.5 and the delay circuit stayed on for 10 secs too BUT!! his light faded off like they do in modern cars. So this module may not work on the E30 loom.

rowemeister - glad you say that, i remember now on the e34/2 there is a light control module under the rear seat that controls it all

Behind the kick panel you will normally find a multi-plug connector taped to the rest of the wiring loom which isn't connected to anything - This is where you plug the light delay relay but you will have to do one or two modifications if your car didn't have one as standard equipment.

If you do a search on this site for something like interior/delay/light you will find plenty of previous threads!!!
