hi i have just purchased a e30 for a project and im wanting to change the manual box for a auto , the engine i am keeping as its been fully overhauled and is a 1.8 . what im wondering is do i have to get an auto box off a 1.8 e30 or could i get one off 320 /325 and so on , i know the 320 and 325 are straight 6's so im thinking different auto boxes , any help would be v much appreciated guys , thx in advance

if you get one of the auto boxs that are eh etc then you will need the ecu the wirng etc plus the size of the boxs is different i can not recall if the drive shaft has to be changed also but you have a 1.8 so m40 or m10 engine early versions of these engines the gear box was not eh just a normal 123DR set up later may have had the eh type also the bolt holes may not line up best thing see what your getting check it out ask others i once asked about putting a auto box to a m42 engine that was from a m40 the guy said yer

thanks , what i want to do is find a donor car so i can strip it and get the auto box prop shaft and other parts . i think its best i find a 1.8 e30 for a donor but i will check up on the auto box comparrison from a local transmission firm .
