Can you get harder bushes than the standard rubber ones for the gearbox mount? I dont want solid bushes as with the engine being mounted using bushes it would transfer alot of stress onto the solid bush/mount??

Thanks

Ive read that E21 mounts are stiffer than E30 ones, something to do with the E21 only using one mount in the middle, (hence being stiffer) but they are the same size as the E30 ones so fitment isnt an issue.

Can anyone suggest how to test if the boot lights are staying on with the boot shut?

AKG make a vast range of components for E30's including different compound bushes.

E21 mount Vs E30 mount

I use these on my 24v cars, you can also buy machined aluminium cups that fit over the bush and reduce movement even more

You can order the Ireland Engineering Items from BimmerWorld; I have installed these on a couple of cars with good reports. The AKG ones are a bit too hard; they can snap off the mounting tabs of the back of the Getrag gearbox!

Whiteline also do a gearbox mount kit (W92839), which I will investigate for my next car...
