how easy is it to get hold of a cars history

ive bin offered a 328i sport and its a minter,low miles,4 owners,no history apart from m.o.t's.how would i be able to get the history!im sure ive read that it can be done via chassis no's.engine no's.reg. is this true any help would be awesome thanks

I've always rung my local dealer, provided the chassis number and they've provided this info for free over the phone.

I thought it was a piss take but unless you know which garage serviced your car you have to ring these guys to get the info.
