I was just wondering if the Lakeside contingent would think of meeting at an alternative place? I have in mind the 'Worlds End' pub at Tilbury Fort (about 10 miles from the existing meet location).

It has a huge carpark, the views over the Thames are fantastic, they do good food and beverages.....

How unlike Maccy Ds at Lakeside, I hear you ask winkeye

I am just sounding this out, so if anyone has any thoughts on this please comment away.

It's great dog / partner walking territory too

To be honest me and my other half went down there the other day and the carpark is not that great if your car is lowered in any way also you have loads of peeps that go fishing off the edge of the wall so the carpark is normally pretty rammed specially on saturday nights too ...........there are also some very harsh potholes down there and we bottemed out a few times and Clays beemer is not overly low.....the pub is normally also full of lorry drivers who dont really give a toss about anyone elses cars in the carpark either you have to remember that is the closest pub to the docks.....not really a ideal location for a car meet to be honest .....plus at the end of the day if your driving to a car meet you shouldn't be drinking anyway lol...........but it depends on everyone else really.........may I ask why are you thinking of changing the location anyway seeing as it is a well established meet at lakeside????

Thanks for that input - I was planning to give it a 'dry run' before pushing this any further, so thanks for the pot hole warnings. It has always been really quiet when I've been down there, so again, a heads up on what it is like on Saturday night is appreciated

As far as suggesting a pub was concerned, Zoners often bring an other half with them, and I don't see why they shouldn't enjoy a drink or too if they fancy. I want to make it clear that I wasn't condoning drink driving at all.

Whilst I appreciate that Lakeside MacDonalds is an established meeting place, I personally don't like the location at all, although it's really convenient for me!

As the title of the thread says, the point of this thread is to guage peoples opinions about the existing location, and whether they are happy to continue to meet there, or whether they fancy a change.

I also know that there is a lot of E30 Zone history tied into meeting at Lakeside, but just because something has been done for a long time doesn't neccessarily make it a good thing.

Numbers of zoners attending the meets are pretty patchy there, so my hope is that between us we can choose to either remain at Lakeside or start meeting at a NEW place that works as well, if not better for us.

Any suggestions gratefully received :D

Because for some of us that is a mission. Much the same as you coming up to lakeside.

it's not far down the M20 from lakeside area, but i suppose it depends on how far further afield from lakeside everyone is.
it's 40odd miles of B road blasting for me to get to ashford and 60 miles for steve and he organises it, the burgers really are that good!

Some of us used to attend both :D
70mile trip to out local meet that was
Maccys food is shite end of , You cant argue that
I like the idea of a inside if needed meet like ashford but it seems to have fallen on its arse again , No idea why as even the locals dont attend it ??
The idea at maccys worked as its away from the chavs and in a well lit carpark but everyone moaned about the food
But put a decent place for food/drink or just a sit down , People will attend once or twice like the diner then wont go again
Its hard to please everyone
Ill pop up and make a effort if it changes venue as will a few others from my way :D

Ashford is about 89 odd miles from you dave and a hour and a half drive
We are just under 60 miles away and thats just under a hour and a half for us country lane hopping
Lakeside , guildford and portsmouth are all similar distances from us down here
Everyone seems to have lost interest in the meets recently and ill hold my hands up as i havent done a portsmouth, lakeside in ages due to lack of numbers and a long drive
I dont mind if there is gonna be a good crowd , Like you dave its not worth the trip down if nobodys gonna be about
I can remember turning up at any of the above meets and a half decent crowd would be there without a doubt
Nowadays you will be lucky if a few others turn up
I only do the ashford as the food is excellent and we get discount and its a night out somewhere different , Its nice to see everyone and its cozy and a laugh in the diner

yep there is a lot of history with the lakeside meet, i dont think changing the venue will make it better but don think it will get worse as people can get to lakeside easy.

Appreciate everything you say here, Andy. I think the real issue that could or should be addressed is meet timing, then. Saturday night is a prime birthday / barbeque / no babysitter thing, so should we be looking at a weekday night, or a weekend afternoon?

I've sat in the Maccy D's carpark at 'meet' time for nearly an hour at times with no sign of any other E30s on more than one occasion :o:

Thoughts on this idea, anyone?

Lakeside is just easy and convenient for everyone to get to.

Ashford is much better though and worth the extra effort to get there, other things have kept me away lately, but i'll be back :-)

Quite right, we've not met, but we have (oddly) both attended the same meet sometimes, I believe.

I tend to turn up at the 'early' end of the meet times, wait for an hour or so and if no one turns up I leave.

Which is why I think it is partially 'broke'

So, I'm getting a general feeling so far that the location works for the zone, which is good.

That only makes me think that a consilidation of timescale could or should be considered?

I'll start another thread and await thoughts from y'all.

Fi :D

That's cool Hun but people tend to spend sTurday and Sunday with the family so the evening is good....... As for week days I think that will make it more difficult for people to come as most of us have work commitments ect........ Think you should leave it a few months and if things don't pick up then think about changing it ........ But at the end of the day it's gonna be quiter at the mo coz of weather and being near Christmas.......... I run a monthly meet for another car club and our meets are very quite at the mo too x
