there seems to be a bit of free travel in the clutch pedal, it has about 5mm travel in the travel before it actually comes against some resistance, before there was no free travel.

is this just a case of topping up the resivior or is it more sinister.

and if so, what to top it up with, and do i just top it ujp or replace all the fluid.

cheers

could be cylinder sticking but renew fluid first before you replace

I know why this is....

There was a spring on the clutch pedal to keep it taught at the end of the travel, to get the cruise clutch switch I had to remove the spring, I asked on here about it before doing it, and nobody else had this spring fitted to their cars!? So I figured it would be OK to remove it, but there was some slight movement in the pedal that didn't actually do anything after removing the spring.

but the free play wasn't there untill a few days ago, it was solid with resistance from the word go, now there is free play, and its slowly og towrse over the last two weeks.

i have started to keep an eye on the clutch resivior just to see if it is going down, but cannot tell yet.

i'll seee what happens.

the cylinders seem ok as the pedal is still solid and has a rock solid feel through out the travel, and it dosn't continually sink to the floor after holing it in.

the only thing is this free play seems to have come from nowhere.

Ah OK, I would say the master and slave cylinders have never been changed, I never got around to doing them anyway, so it's probably still on original, I would change these anyway, as the last thing you want is for the master to spew it's contents over the carpet!

i'll try topping up the fluid first, then see about doping the cylinders possibly at a later date along with the lines.

whats best to top it up with, brake fluid? ATF?
